Policymakers should avoid policies that weaken the pillars that support employer-sponsored insurance. Policy proposals that threaten ERISA’s uniformity or seek to change the tax treatment of coverage will decrease innovation and increase costs for employees. The NCB works to prevent these efforts.

America’s employers are committed to offering high-quality, cost effective health benefits to employees and their families, but need relief from the 40 percent tax to ensure that workers are not negatively affected. The National Coalition on Benefits calls on Congress to repeal the 40 percent excise tax to protect employee benefits and mitigate the negative impact of the 40 percent tax on the employer-sponsored system and the over 181 million Americans that it covers.
