Employers Continue to Support Repeal of the 40 Percent Tax on Health Care Benefits

Washington – Mallory Micetich, a spokesperson for the National Coalition on Benefits, today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s proposal to change the scope of the 40 percent tax on health benefits mandated by the Affordable Care Act.

“America’s employers, both large and small, continue to support a full repeal of the 40 percent tax on health benefits. Absent repeal, the 40 percent tax will slow private sector health care innovation and erode the value of the employer-sponsored health care benefits upon which more than 181 million Americans currently rely.”

“The 40 percent tax undercuts the ability of employers to design plans to fit their employees’ needs. As a result, proposals to ‘fix’ the tax, such as the one included in President Obama’s budget proposal will not solve the underlying problems and unintended consequences the tax creates for employees.”

“The National Coalition on Benefits strongly urges Congress to repeal the tax this year.”
